Mussoorie is filled with family-run eateries that have been serving tourists for ages. All of them have their own secret recipes that have been passed down through generations, which is why no foodie has ever been disappointed. Influenced by Garhwali and Tibetan cuisine, a traditional food tour should definitely be on your menu!

Want more? One of the most stunning waterfalls in this part of the country can be found at Kempty Falls, which is 4500 feet above sea level. Water cascades from a 40-foot height. All you need is a picnic basket, and you are set. You can even give Bhatta Falls a go! One of the most picturesque waterfalls in the country is right next to M$ Resorts.

You can also travel 6 km from Mussoorie to our personal favorite, Lal Tibba. It is located on top of Depot Hill in Landour, completely untouched by commercialization. This is the highest point in Mussoorie and gives you a spectacular view of the Himalayas. All you need to do is hope for a cloudless day!

No trip to Mussoorie is complete without a visit to George Everest’s House. Also known as the Park Estate, the house was built in 1832. It’s almost two centuries old, but it still holds the power to draw history, nature, and adventure buffs. Why? Once you are there, you will find the answer for yourself.

And if you are in Mussoorie, then you cannot go back without a trip to Dhanaulti. This hill station is even more spectacular in winter! The whole place is covered in a thick blanket of snow. If you are lucky enough to catch the first snow of the season, it’s a sight that will melt your heart even though it’s freezing!

We haven’t even scratched the surface yet! Camel Back Road, Company Garden, there are so many places! There are a lot of things to do and see, but you need time. A one or two-day trip is not enough to make the most of your visit. By the way, did you know that M$ Resorts take bookings for a full month as well? So, get to it already! Click on “Book Your Stay!”

LET'S TALK ABOUT

MUSSOORIE

At MS Resorts, we think that to truly appreciate Mussoorie, a little history lesson is a must! Let’s jump back a little over 200 years ago. Imagine there are no colonial buildings, no markets, and nothing else but just lush greenery everywhere. Back then, the lands were occupied by ethnic tribes and communities whose only source of livelihood was agriculture. The shepherds had their cattle grazing on the “Mansūr” shrub which is what the town is named after.

In the early 19th century, a lieutenant of the British East India Company and the founder of the Sirmoor Battalion, Frederick Young, came to these hills to hunt for some game. Upon his arrival, Young was so captivated by his surroundings that he decided to build himself a hunting lodge on Camel Back Road which was also the very first construction in Mussoorie. In 1827, the company declared Mussoorie as a convalescent zone on Young’s recommendation, following which Young built his residence “Mullingar” in Landour. The house which still exists to the day was named after a town in Ireland, an homage to Young’s Irish roots. He came to Mussoorie to hunt, but he fell in love. A boy who left Ireland and joined the British East India Company at the age of 15, finally found peace and solace in the arms of Mussoorie.

Mussoorie never left his thoughts, and to this day, “Legend has it that on dark, moonless nights, a ghostly rider astride a white horse arrives at the old Mullingar lodge, ties his steed to the remnants of the old wrought iron railing, snaps to attention, and… waits for the parade of Redcoats to begin.” – Ganesh Saii

That’s the power of love, isn’t it? It can transcend time and space. Even though the name Frederick Young is rarely heard, the love that he had for Mussoorie has been passed on to many after him, including us. And that’s what we hope to pass on to you!
